Lilongwe Adopts Automated Parking System to Boost Revenue
The modernization of the parking system aligns with Lilongwe's commitment to keeping pace with technological advancements and improving the overall visitor experience.
LILONGWE, Malawi— The city of Lilongwe is taking steps to implement an automated parking system, a move aimed at increasing revenue collection while keeping fees low to attract visitors, Mayor Councilor Richard Banda announced, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Speaking about the progress of the Car Park project, Mayor Banda expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing work behind the National Bank in City Center and other locations within the capital.
He emphasized the importance of embracing modern technology in enhancing parking services and revenue collection.
"In Lilongwe as a city, we have many parking bays, but we are losing a lot of revenue because we do not have a modern parking system. Vehicles just park randomly without a proper system, and the manual ticketing book system is laden with leakages, making it subject to manipulation. So, we want to change that," Mayor Banda explained.
The Mayor underscored the need to computerize the parking system through the use of automated technology linked to the council's servers.
This transition is expected to address revenue leakages and significantly enhance revenue collection.
While specific revenue figures were not disclosed, Mayor Banda highlighted the project's strategic importance as a partnership with the government and its role in making Lilongwe more attractive to visitors.
