Likoma Teams Excited to Join NRFA Regional League
The league is jointly sponsored by Simso and Innobuild to the tune of MK15 million per season.
MZIMBA, Malawi-- The Northern Region Football Association will launch the 2024 MK15 million Simso Innobuild League on Sunday at Jenda ground, incorporating teams from Likoma Island into the regional league for the first time, writes Victor Musongole.
Likoma United and Chizumulu United's participation will give islanders a chance to witness regional teams at home after previously competing only in the FAM Moto Division One league.
"There is talent at the island but we lacked this opportunity. Now it's our time to showcase that at regional level with hope of unearthing talents from here, and we have all it takes to do well in this league," said Likoma United General Secretary Emmanuel Kapekenya.
Chizumulu United Team Manager Aubrey Mwashiri echoed Kapekenya's sentiments, saying players from the islands will use the opportunity to showcase talents at a bigger level.
Northern Region Football Association General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu said they expect tough competition and good discipline from teams.
"We are expecting a good season both in competition and discipline. We still have co-sponsors who have already committed to sponsor this season. With Likoma Islands teams, we expect additional competition and flavor to the league," Nyasulu said.
