Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa Hits at Tonse Alliance gvt over Rising Cost of Living
House Leader Richard Chimwendo Banda dismissed Nankhumwa's sentiments, insisting that the government is on track to deliver on its campaign promises.
Malawi: Kondwani Nankhumwa, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, claims the Tonse Alliance-led government has failed to manage the state's affairs, citing rising inflation and high levels of public debt.
Nankhumwa also claims that the government has failed to devise strategies for revitalizing the country's agricultural sector.
"It's high time the country transformed from rain-fed agriculture and adopt new farming methods. I am concerned over the government's failure to find practical solutions of addressing high poverty levels among Malawians," said Nankhumwa in Parliament on Friday.
Nankhumwa also criticized the Tonse administration for oppressing the media, human rights activists, and social media influencers.
As a result, he has called on President Lazarus Chakwera to awaken from his “slumber” and fulfil his administration's campaign promises.
In his response, House Leader Richard Chimwendo Banda dismissed Nankhumwa's sentiments, insisting that the government is on track to deliver on its campaign promises.
He cited a number of ongoing projects, including those adopted by the previous administration.
Parliament has since been adjourned sine die.
