Malawi: Nsanje Lalanje parliamentarian, Gladys Ganda, has praised the management of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) for replacing a transformer at Phokera Health Centre, which had hampered operations.

Ganda, who also chairs Parliament's Budget and Finance Committee, stated on Friday that the transformer failure affected not only the health facility but also the surrounding area.

"I am grateful to ESCOM for responding to the concerns of Phokera Health Centre and the surrounding communities," Ganda said.

The legislator was quick to praise her constituents for their patience, stating that the replacement took about 8 months.

In a separate interview, Senior Group Village Headman Mnembe expressed relief that his subjects had returned to the light.

He praised the power producer company for rescuing the area, where the lack of electricity had a negative impact on the operations of many things in the area.

Ganda is the first female Parliamentarian elected under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) banner in Nsanje Lalanje constituency.
