Late Goal Sends Bullets to FDH Bank Cup Semifinal
The FDH Bank Cup, known as the "Pachema" cup, continues to provide thrilling moments as teams vie for the championship.
BLANTYRE, Malawi — A stoppage-time goal from substitute Precious Phiri propelled FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a 1-0 victory over Civil Service United in the FDH Bank Cup quarterfinal Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium, writes Happy Valirani.
Phiri's 95th-minute strike came after a passing sequence between Lloyd Aaron and Babatunde Adepoju. Adepoju's final pass found Phiri in the box for the tap-in.
The defending champions will face Moyale Barracks in the semifinal.
Bullets head coach Calisto Pasuwa acknowledged the tough match but expressed satisfaction with the result.
"These are cup games. What you need is to go to the next round, and we have advanced. I am happy for this," Pasuwa said.
Looking ahead to the semifinal, Pasuwa added, "We are facing Moyale, and they have been in fine form. We need to score goals to get results."
Wilson Chidati, assistant coach for Civil Service United, lamented the late goal.
"Very painful that we have conceded at the last minute, but we have accepted the result," Chidati said.
In another quarterfinal match, Blue Eagles defeated Baka City 3-0 to advance. They will play Karonga United in the semifinals.
