Kwawala Holdings Donates Jerseys to Northern Malawi Police Football Team
The donation highlights growing corporate involvement in local sports development in Malawi, as businesses seek to support community initiatives and youth engagement through athletics.
MZUZU, Malawi— Kwawala Holdings donated football jerseys to Eagle Strikers, a team sponsored by the Northern Police Headquarters, on Saturday in an effort to boost football development in northern Malawi, writes Lumbani Kaunda.
At the donation ceremony, Victor Gondwe, representing Kwawala Holdings, emphasized the importance of supporting national development, including sports.
"It's a collective responsibility for everyone to redefine their interests and become patriotic in supporting football," Gondwe said.
"You can use anything small you have for the betterment of the general good."
Gondwe added that the team helps prevent youth from engaging in immoral behaviors by keeping them occupied with sports.
Sam Phiri, manager of Grand Palace Hotel and representative of Mzuzu-based business leaders, encouraged the team to strive for excellence to attract more support.
Richard Luhanga, Regional Commissioner of Police for the north, received the donation. He expressed gratitude, noting the jerseys would aid in reviving the previously disbanded team.
"The team was there before but it died, and we're now resuscitating it to become more competitive within the northern region," Luhanga said.
He urged players to maintain discipline, warning that a lack of self-discipline has ended many careers.
