Kenya Outsmarts Malawi 4-0 to Reach Tournament Final
On Tuesday, the hosts will play against Zambia for a third-place position while Kenya will face Zimbabwe in the final at the same venue.
LILONGWE, Malawi— Flame's Four Nations Tournament dream was crushed last night when they lost 4-0 against the Kenyan football team, the Harambe Stars, at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Though the home side slowly came into the game after 25 minutes, they failed to penetrate into the Harambe half, who used their physical stature to their advantage.
Malawi will play for a bronze medal on Tuesday afternoon with Zambia.
In a post-match interview after their defeat, Flames coach Patrick Mabedi admitted the team didn't show up to the party.
"First 10-20 minutes we started very bad and we were very sluggish. We didn't show up to the party and we gave away soft goals, hence we had to make some quick changes," Mabedi said. "
We will be much ready for the upcoming encounter."
Mabedi congratulated Kenya for making it to the final and also thanked Malawians for their unwavering support, urging them to do the same against Zambia on Tuesday.
"The team haven't played together for a long time that affected us, but at the end of the day as a team we achieved our goal to assess other players. Well, we lost we just need to move on and keep on giving chance to other players," he added.
