Kawinga, Luanar Play to Scoreless Draw
The draw saw the clever boys remain fifth on the standings, while the area 36 Boys remained at the top with one game left with 50 points.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Rejuvenated Luanar F.C held Kawinga F.C to a 0-0 draw in the CRFA MK15 Chipiku premier league match at Kamuzu barracks on Thursday afternoon to open a six-point gap over second placed Namitete-Zitha, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The draw saw the clever boys remain fifth on the standings, while the area 36 Boys remained at the top with one game left with 50 points after playing 21 games, a point above Namitete–Zitha F.C who has 44 points from 20 games.
"It was a tough game," said Kawinga F.C patron Joe Mwase. "A lot of teams are now looking at us."
Both teams adopted a cautious approach and there was little to choose between the two sides in the opening proceedings, with the Clever Boys edging the possession stakes, as Kawinga upped the tempo after the half-mark through Lazarus Chirwa and Yacin Chida who failed to utilize clear chances.
"It was a very good game though a lot of people expected Kawinga to win but he is happy with a hard-fought point as he hailed his players for a good fight," said Luanar F.C head coach Millias Pofera Jegwe.
Although it is still too early to say who will be promoted to the TNM Super league next season, there is no doubt that both Kawinga and Zitha will want to ensure one of them end up playing in the elite league next season.
As the journey continues Namitete – Zitha F.C need a victory against Salima-based Ngolowindo F.C on Sunday to strengthen their chances of getting a promotion to the first tier of Malawian football and set a final day decider against rivals Kawinga F.C.
