MZUZU, Malawi— Karonga United secured a 1-0 victory over Mzuzu City Hammers in a Super League match at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday, dealing the home team their second consecutive loss, writes Victor Musongole.
Raphael Nkhoma scored the lone goal in the 38th minute with a powerful shot into the top of the net after a cross from Ellie Kayombo.
Karonga United dominated the early stages, creating several scoring opportunities while Hammers struggled to find their footing.
Hammers' tactical substitutions in the second half, including the introduction of Samuel Adeyemi, Brian Phiri, and Chawanangwa Mkandawire, failed to turn the tide.
Karonga United coach Oscar Kaunda praised his team's performance, noting, "We changed the play in the second half. We started defending. I'm happy with the performance from the boys."
Hammers coach Kondwa Ikwanga struggled to explain the loss, calling it one of their worst performances this season.
"Today we played long and high balls with no clear pattern. We underrated our opponents," Ikwanga said.
