KARONGA, Malawi — Karonga United FC secured a triumphant 2-0 victory against Moyale Barracks in a thrilling TNM Super League match held at the Karonga Stadium on Wednesday, writes Tawonga Chisale.
Karonga United displayed exceptional skill and coordination, netting two goals in the second quarter of the game.
The first goal, scored in the 56th minute by Allen Chihana, was a skilful pass converted into a goal. Shortly after, in the 65th minute, Mwisho Yougngson scored the second goal with a precision cross into the net.
The second quarter of the match saw Karonga United dominating ball possession, granting them the advantage needed to outperform their opponents.
The resounding cheers and jubilation from Karonga United's supporters echoed throughout the stadium as the team secured all three points without any concessions.
During post-match interviews, Karonga United's coach, Trevor Kajawa, expressed his elation, attributing the team's success to their hardworking spirit and effective teamwork.
He stated, "Our players' dedication and teamwork allowed us to dominate possession, creating opportunities to score goals without difficulty. I am very proud of my boys."
Kajawa also affirmed the team's readiness for their upcoming match against the Blue Eagles on Sunday, assuring fans that their strategy was well-prepared.
He further urged their loyal supporters to turn out in large numbers on Sunday, acknowledging that the fans' unwavering support played a significant role in securing the win against Moyale.
Karonga United has now secured three consecutive victories in the second phase of the TNM Super League.
On the other side, Moyale Barracks' coach, Nicholas Mhango, attributed their loss to fatigue.
He noted that the team had played numerous games in a week without adequate rest, affecting their performance.
"Our players seemed fatigued, and it reflected in our performance. We struggled in both defence and attack. Fatigue from playing back-to-back games may have contributed to our difficulties," said Mhango.
He acknowledged the challenging circumstances as a coach, with limited time for training, and emphasized the need for the team to recuperate ahead of their game on Saturday.
