Karonga north lawmaker calls for collaborative efforts in ending conflicts

Mwambande has also reminded community members to participate in all community development projects so that there is ownership of the projects.

Malawi: Member of Parliament for Karonga North Constituency, Mungasulwa Mwambande, has donated 37 iron sheets to Ngerenge Primary School in the district's Traditional Authority Kilupula for the roofing of a teachers' house.

In an interview, Austin Simwela, Headmaster of Ngerenge Primary School, stated that the teachers’ house was built in 2021, but due to financial constraints, they were unable to roof the house, prompting them to approach a member of parliament about taking on the development.

He has expressed gratitude to the MP for the donation, stating that it has come at a time when the school is experiencing a teacher shortage due to an increase in the number of students and that the donation will help to increase the number of teachers when roofed.

'On behalf of the school staff members, I am very grateful for the donation because when the house is roofed, it will be conducive for teachers, and since we have a teacher shortage, this will help to bring in another teacher,' said Simwela.

Mungasulwa Mwambande, in his remarks, has asked traditional leaders, community members, and development committees in the area to continue their collaborative efforts in ending malpractices that fuel conflicts in order to have a developed area.

Mwambande has also reminded community members to participate in all community development projects so that there is ownership of the projects.

'The donation will benefit many people if the community is at peace; as a Member of Parliament for Karonga North Constituency, I thought of helping with iron sheets so that the teachers’ house project could be completed,' Mwambande explained.

There are 727 students and 8 teachers at Ngerenge Primary School.
