Kachikho pays fees to keep 3 Thyolo boys in school
Philip Banda, Andrew Banda, and Lonjezo Magaisa, all in Forms 1 and 2, had stopped attending school due to inability to pay fees.
THYOLO, Malawi - Businessman Benjamin Kachikho has paid school fees to allow three boys who had dropped out to return to classes at Nagwengwere Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Thyolo Thava constituency, writes Moses Thole.
Philip Banda, Andrew Banda, and Lonjezo Magaisa, all in Forms 1 and 2, had stopped attending school due to inability to pay fees.
Kachikho, who is the shadow MP for Thyolo Thava, said he will sponsor the trio through the rest of secondary school as part of his commitment to assisting needy youth in the area.
"Helping children stay in school is a pillar I want to champion when I represent this constituency after the 2025 elections," Kachikho said.
Margaret Leonard, a spokesperson for the Khwethemule Youth Network in Thyolo district, welcomed Kachikho's gesture.
She said at least 17 other local youth have had to leave school over unpaid fees and urged more stakeholders to help.
"Efforts to get the incumbent MP Mary Thomu Navicha to assist have been futile, as she always makes excuses," Leonard said.
Speaking on behalf of the three students, Magaisa said over the weekend, "We are happy to be back in class thanks to Mr. Kachikho's kindness."
