SALIMA, Malawi— The K5 million Tamu Tamu football league was officially launched on Sunday at Msalura Ground in Salima district, with authorities and sponsors vowing support for football development in the area, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Speaking during the launch, Salima District Commissioner James Mwenda hailed sponsors M&B Company, saying the investment aligns with the district's commitment to grassroots football growth.
"For the development of our beautiful game, I would like to assure the football fraternity in the district that Salima District Council is set to support the Salima football team select which has been lacking sponsorship," Mwenda said.
He urged players and supporters to remain disciplined, stating the league will provide hope and opportunities for local youth.
Salima District Football Association (SADFA) Chairperson Abudul Salaam Mtingwinda expressed gratitude for the significant sponsorship amount, promising to ensure the league runs smoothly.
M&B Company Marketing Manager Mackcity Makhuwira said the Tamu Tamu drink maker will continue assisting the district league as part of its corporate social responsibility focused on promoting good health and environmental conservation among its clients.
