CHIKWAWA, Malawi-In a bid to address the dire conditions endured by learners at Gombwa Primary School in Chikwawa Nkombezi, a K40 million project is underway to construct two new school blocks, effectively putting an end to the use of inadequate shelters as classroom, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Member of Parliament for the area, Abida Sidik Mia, who also serves as the Minister of Water and Sanitation, initiated the construction project to enhance the learning environment for the students.
"It is unfair for children to be learning in grass-thatched shelters that expose them to various disruptions during classes," remarked Mia, highlighting the need for better facilities.
In addition to providing improved classrooms, Mia stated that the construction of the two school blocks is necessary to meet the enrollment needs of the students at the school.
Group Village Headman Mzangaya commended the efforts of the MP in addressing the classroom shortage at the school, indicating that the previous conditions had led to students' frequent absences.
He also expressed gratitude for the boreholes that were sunk in the area, helping to mitigate waterborne diseases like cholera.
With these ongoing developments, students at Gombwa Primary School can look forward to a safer and more conducive learning environment in the near future.
