Justice Minister Condemns Alleged MP Bribery
Mvalo stated that bribery could distort laws and undermine the credibility of both the MPs involved and the legislative process.
LILONGWE, Malawi— Malawi's Minister of Justice, Titus Mvalo, has expressed disappointment over allegations of bribery involving members of Parliament (MPs), writes Esther Banda.
Mvalo made his remarks during the "Malawi Civic Space Dialogue" at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) on Aug. 24.
"It is very sad if truly the MPs are involved in such an act," he said. "It is corruption, which must not be tolerated by the law."
Mvalo stated that bribery could distort laws and undermine the credibility of both the MPs involved and the legislative process.
He urged the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate the allegations seriously.
"If they get evidence on that, be assured that the MP involved in corrupt practice will face its consequences," he said.
"No MP is supposed to be paid in order to pass any bill."
