Lilongwe, Malawi - John Tembo, a prominent figure in Malawian politics and former president of the Malawi Congress Party, has passed away in Lilongwe, the capital city, writes Winston Mwale.
The news was confirmed by his son, John Tembo Jr.
Tembo, known for his unwavering political positions, leaves behind a legacy of uncompromising dedication to his political beliefs.
Throughout his career, he played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of Malawi.
His contributions and influence will be remembered by many in the country.
On April 7, 2012, while I was still employed at Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) in Malawi, I had the privilege of interviewing John Tembo regarding the passing of then-President Bingu wa Mutharika and the subsequent ascension of Joyce Banda to the presidency, as she was the country's vice president at the time.
During the interview, we delved into a variety of topics, and as always, Tembo demonstrated his astute political acumen.
This interview was part of a programme that I had put together after the death of Bingu.
It was indeed an honour to conduct an interview with such a prominent political figure.
