IPMM President Underscores Need for Well-Trained HR Professionals for Malawi's Development

ZOMBA, Malawi- The President of the Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM), has emphasized the importance of having a well-trained workforce managed by skilled human resource professionals to drive development and achieve the country's Malawi Agenda 2063 goals, writes Peter Davieson.
Godwin Sam Ng'oma made this call during a recent Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Training workshop aimed at empowering professionals and aspirants in the field of human resources.
Speaking at the event, Ng'oma stated that as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations should now focus on progress.
He underlined the crucial role of human resource professionals in ensuring the right people with the right skills are placed in the right jobs at the right time and in the right manner, which is essential for the country's development.
"If we are to develop as a country, we need to have well-trained HR professionals who will do the right thing to get the right people to come to the right job with the right skills at the right time in the right manner, which is required for the development of this country," Ng'oma said.
Angelline Kwanjana, the Head of Performance Management for the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), appreciated the development, saying such workshops will empower how the MRA operates.
"The training is about strategy, so for us as MRA, we want to be strategic in terms of how we are performing, and we are learning how to be strategic. It's not about managing day-to-day performance but to ensure that as you are managing performance, you are also ensuring that you are achieving your strategic goals," Kwanjana said.
The workshop was attended by representatives from various organizations, including Coca-Cola Company, Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD), Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Airport Development Limited (ADL), African Parks, ESCOM, MUBAS, and NOCMA, among others.
The IPMM president's call highlights the recognition of the pivotal role that well-trained human resource professionals play in driving organizational success and contributing to the overall development of the nation.
