Insurer Boosts Local Industry With Quiz Funds
Old Mutual Malawi Limited Group CEO Edith Jiya donated funds to the Insurance Institute of Malawi (IIM) to help boost the insurance industry in Malawi.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— One of the country's oldest pensions and life insurance administrators, Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited, has supported the Insurance Institute of Malawi with K7 million to help the institute run this year's insurance quiz competition from Dec. 14-20 in Blantyre, writes Steven Godfrey Mkweteza.
Speaking at the quiz competition launch Friday, Old Mutual Malawi Limited Group Chief Executive Officer Edith Jiya said her company donated the funds to continue assisting the institute in boosting the insurance industry locally.
"Old Mutual and Insurance Institute Malawi have been in a partnership for so long. This relationship extends to the sponsorship we give to the institute towards running these quiz competition series to boost the industry," she said.
Jiya added that the partnerships drive innovation in insurance practices and contribute to the professional development of institute members.
"Our sponsorship of this event is not merely a financial transaction, but a partnership built on mutual respect and shared aspirations. It is a collaboration that goes beyond monetary support, encompassing exchanging ideas, expertise and resources," she said.
According to Jiya, many Old Mutual employees have benefited from programs and initiatives including the quiz competitions organized by the insurance institute, prompting the continued support.
Insurance Institute of Malawi President Hastings Kapesa expressed gratitude to Old Mutual for the funding, saying it would ensure a successful competition and help meet its goals.
"We want this relationship to continue for a long time, hence, our effort to be transparent and accountable in running the event," he said.
Kapesa said 20 insurance companies will compete in the four-day event. Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited, a listed company on the Malawi Stock Exchange, has sponsored the competition for 12 years.
