Malawi: African Risk Capacity (ARC)Limited has initiated climate risk management interventions in order to promote disaster risk management solutions for climate resilience in Malawi.
During a policyholder meeting, the initiative's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lesley Ndlovu, stated that they will assist member countries in combating the effects of climate change.
"We are providing holistic solutions to Malawi and other member countries in combating weather-related risk," Ndlovu explained.
He also stated that their organization will meet the needs of all Malawians in terms of alleviating people's suffering caused by climate-related risk.
Ndlovu went on to say that they also help governments, agencies, and local people.
He also urged Malawi's government and other stakeholders to work together to achieve Africa's climate resilience goals.
"We would love to see Malawi, policymakers and stakeholders, donors, and other development partners work together so that we can combat the risks and effects of climate change," Ndlovu said.
He also confirmed that they had given the Malawi government 14.2 million dollars in claims as part of their insurance interventions.
In response to the same issue, Andrew Wilson, United Kingdom (UK) government supervisor for Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office, pledged to continue to support the firm.
"As Foreign Commonwealth Development, we are very interested in continuing to support ARC as part of our interventions to alleviate the sufferings of people in various countries," Wilson said.
He also reassured Malawians that the UK government would respond to extreme weather and climate-related risks.
Speaking on the sidelines of development, Wilson also mentioned that they are assisting various humanitarian actors in order to have a positive impact.
Wilson also encouraged Malawi, as a member country, to use positive mechanisms rather than negative ones in combating the impact of climate change-related risk.
ARC is an African Union specialized agency that provides comprehensive sovereign disaster risk solutions to build capacity, climate resilience, and food security.
