Improved Healthcare Access for Chikwawa South Communities with New Under 5 Clinic
This development follows the construction of a dedicated health facility in the area.
Chikwawa, Malawi- Member of Parliament for Chikwawa South, Illias Karim, has announced that the communities residing around Group Village Headman Mtayamanja, in the jurisdiction of Sub-Traditional Authority Masache, Chikwawa, will no longer have to rely on makeshift Under 5 Clinics under trees, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
This development follows the construction of a dedicated health facility in the area.
Speaking to AfricaBrief on Friday, Karim addressed the previous challenges faced by the community, particularly women who had to endure long journeys to access healthcare services.
He described the situation as dire, noting that the area had lacked a proper Under 5 Clinic since Malawi gained independence in 1964.
"I am very pleased that the Area Development Committee (ADC) and the Councillor for the area have reached a consensus to establish a clinic closer to the community," he stated.
The MP disclosed that the construction of the new clinic would require an estimated K12 to K15 million, commending the community for actively participating in the construction process. Local residents have shown great interest and commitment by contributing materials such as bricks and sand.
"People have already demonstrated significant dedication to this project," Karim noted.
Amos Chabe, the Councillor for Kawanda Ward, expressed his agreement with the Member of Parliament, emphasizing the urgent need for improved access to healthcare services within the community.
Chabe expressed optimism that the new Under 5 Clinic would benefit the local population, bringing essential healthcare services closer to their vicinity.
Group Village Headman Mtayamanja extended his appreciation to the government for introducing healthcare services to the area.
He highlighted the importance of easy access to healthcare services and urged the local community to take responsible care of the newly established healthcare facility.
The construction of this Under 5 Clinic signifies a significant step toward improving healthcare access and overall health outcomes for the residents of Chikwawa.
The initiative has garnered widespread support and enthusiasm from both the local community and elected officials.
