Hunger Relief Arrives in Malawi Village
Speaking after the distribution at Tombolombo in Manyamula, Healing Hands Country Director Mbwenu Chirwa said the relief cushions food shortages.
MZIMBA, Malawi- Healing Hands International in collaboration with Church of Christ distributed food packs worth K22 million Tuesday to address hunger in Manyamula, Mzimba, writes Victor Musongole.
"With this help I will now focus on farm preparation ahead of the rainy season. The money we were to spend on food will now go toward farm inputs," said Juliet Moyo of Daniel Tembo village.
"They taught us winter farming which is really helping us. We are grateful for the relief."
Speaking after the distribution at Tombolombo in Manyamula, Healing Hands Country Director Mbwenu Chirwa said the relief cushions food shortages.
"The pack has fortified rice as temporary relief," Chirwa said.
About 60% of people taught farming God's way are now food secure, he added, with some doing well in winter farming.
Village Headman Longwe Kamanga urged people to take winter farming seriously to fight food insecurity.
"HHI has taught us programs like winter farming, food support and water access. I urge people to take the teaching seriously," Kamanga said.
Since April, Healing Hands and Church of Christ distributed flour worth K18 million in Mzimba and are implementing organic farming, women and youth empowerment.
