Hope Ministries International Aids Karonga's Fight Against Cholera
As the rainy season approaches, the council has called on more partners to step in and help eliminate the cholera outbreak in Karonga.
KARONGA, MALAWI— Hope Ministries International has provided a timely donation of essential cholera prevention and treatment supplies to Karonga District Hospital, bolstering the region's response to the ongoing outbreak, writes AfricaBrief Reporter.
According to Welani Mbaso, a project officer with Hope Ministries, the donated items include gloves, disinfectant, cholera test kits, and necessary medications.
The organisation, which works on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in the area, felt compelled to intervene after witnessing the impact of the cholera crisis.
"Seeing the number of people who are affected by cholera, we thought it wise to take a hand and to donate," Mbaso said.
Karonga District Information Officer, George Mponda, confirmed the region has recorded 52 cholera cases with 6 deaths, affecting three of the district's seven traditional authorities.
The donated materials will be distributed to Kaporo Health Centre, where most cases are being reported, as well as Karonga District Hospital.
"The donated materials will help in combating the outbreak because we had insufficient personal protective equipment for health personnel," the information officer stated.
Hope Ministries' donation aligns with the organisation's mission to provide charitable assistance to those in need.
