High Court Judge Urges Graduates to Drive Change in Malawi
High Court Judge Chifundo Kachale motivates new graduates to use creativity and innovation to tackle national challenges in Malawi.
LILONGWE, MALAWI - The University of Lilongwe held its 4th cohort graduation ceremony on Friday, where High Court Judge Chifundo Kachale encouraged graduates to embrace creativity and innovation to address pressing social and economic issues in Malawi, writes Peter Chilongo.
Under the theme "Unity in Diversity: Equal Access to Quality Education," the graduation ceremony celebrated the achievements of 85 students who received Bachelor's Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates in various fields.
The graduates' areas of study included Business Administration, Journalism, Accounting, Community Development, Marketing, and Early Childhood Development.
Judge Kachale emphasised that obtaining a degree alone is insufficient to create a significant impact in today's highly competitive world.
He encouraged the graduates to strive for relevance by applying creativity and innovation to tackle the developmental challenges faced by the nation.
"To have a degree is one thing, but to make yourself relevant is a different thing. As graduates from the University of Lilongwe, I urge you to go out there and bring positive change to the challenges affecting the nation. You can only achieve this if you embrace hard work, creativity, and innovation," Kachale stated.
The call to action resonated with the graduating class as they prepared to embark on their professional journeys.
Judge Kachale also advised the graduates to maintain ethical standards and discipline throughout their careers, as their actions would reflect the reputation of the University of Lilongwe.
The University of Lilongwe President, Dr Francis Mkandawire, emphasised the institution's commitment to adapting to a changing world.
He revealed plans to introduce new programmes that would equip graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the competitive job market.
"As a university, we need to be responsive enough to the changing world, and to achieve this, we intend to introduce new programmes to make our graduates competitive in the job market," Dr Mkandawire explained.
The responsibility now lies with these graduates to make a positive difference and contribute to Malawi's growth and progress.
With their ability to think creatively and innovatively, they are poised to shape a brighter future, not just for their country but also for the world.
