Herbal Company Boosts Blantyre Youth Soccer Sponsorship
The 2024 and 2025 tournaments will be named the "African Herbal Mixture Za Natural Cup".
BLANTYRE, Malawi- African Herbal Mixture has announced a major increase in its sponsorship of the Blantyre District under-19 youth soccer league, writes Happy Valirani.
The herbal company on Friday said it will provide K40 million over two years to the district's youth football committee.
That's a K30 million increase over last season's sponsorship.
The 2024 and 2025 tournaments will be named the "African Herbal Mixture Za Natural Cup," company managing director Joel Chirambo said at a news conference.
"Our aim is to put Malawi football on the map. This is why we are starting from the grassroot level," he said.
The company thanked the district's youth football officials for well-run competitions.
Chirambo appealed for continued discipline and fair play to ensure successful tournaments.
Benjamin Kumwenda, technical director for the Football Association of Malawi, applauded the sponsorship boost.
"The future of our football is in these youth," he said.
Committee chairperson Bottom Kayesera said the funding "will help to discover new talents."
The 2024 cup will run from March 1-April 20 with 16 Blantyre district teams divided into four groups.
The winner will receive K2 million kwacha, and other top finishers will also earn prize money.
Last year, Bullets Youth won the inaugural competition by defeating the Wanderers Youth squad.
