Health Official Calls for Coordination to Address Challenges in Zomba
The calls for coordination come as stakeholders seek to improve health service delivery and interventions across Zomba district through synergized efforts and shared resources.
ZOMBA, Malawi - The Director of Health Services for Zomba District has urged stakeholders to coordinate efforts in order to effectively address challenges facing the health sector and provide oversight on service delivery in the district, writes Peter Davieson.
Dr. Alinafe Kalanga Mjojo made the call on Thursday during a coordinators and partners quality improvement meeting in Zomba.
"It's a mandate for the government through the district councils to be coming together with the partners quarterly to make sure that together we look at our programming and check if we are responding to the disease burden in the district and also coordinate by putting our faces together and we are able to address the challenges equally in the district," Mjojo said.
Zomba District Commissioner Reinghard Chavula commended the contribution of partners working in the health sector towards achieving indicators. However, she said there is a need to map out whether all partners are active or not.
Ruth Chikaonda, District Manager for Momentum Tiyen in Zomba, mentioned that lack of coordination and collaboration results in failure to mobilize resources effectively, as most partners are concentrated in one area while others suffer.
"If we coordinate, we will be able to redistribute ourselves and cover the whole district rather than be at one place," Chikaonda said, adding such forums allow understanding of what other partners are doing and their objectives.
