Healing Hands International Donates Food Packs to Rumphi Prison
One of the prisoners, Noel Mkandawire, described the donation as an early Christmas, noting that they will now have options apart from nsima.
RUMPHI, Malawi — Healing Hands International, in collaboration with the Church of Christ, has donated food packs worth K1.5 million to Rumphi Prison to supplement their food supply, writes Victor Musongole.
Macdonald Matope, Rumphi Prison Health Coordinator, commended the organization for their timely boost of food packs while calling on others to follow suit.
“This fortified rice will help to boost nutritional value for our prisoners. We lack these foods at our prison,” Matope said.
One of the prisoners, Noel Mkandawire, described the donation as an early Christmas, noting that they will now have options apart from nsima.
Speaking after the donation at Rumphi Prison, Healing Hands International Country Director Mbwenu Chirwa said the donation of balanced fortified rice came after identifying the need during a similar donation at Mzimba Prison last month.
“This pack of balanced fortified rice will supplement prisoners’ food in the meantime,” Chirwa said.
Chirwa added that they plan to donate other food packs, with financial support from American Feed My Starving Children, to Kasungu Prison.
