Malawi: Green Impact Technologies (GIT) has announced a partnership with the Malawi government through the Digital Malawi project, aimed at improving the financial resilience of vulnerable communities, writes Peter Chilongo.
The initiative is being implemented by the Government of Malawi in partnership with the World Bank Group through the Public and Private Partnership Commission (PPPC).
In an interview, Admore Chiumia, the Executive Director for the initiative, stated that GIT is committed to improving the lives of the poor masses in the country.
"The program seeks to leverage digital technologies to drive economic growth, innovation and job creation, access to services, information, and markets, and increase government efficiency and transparency," said Chiumia.
He also highlighted the importance of training and capacity-building for communities.
"GIT has developed some valuable training on mass literacy, entrepreneurship, and digital skills to accelerate innovation and technologies, and build the capacity of last mile communities to gain access to productive use solutions for their improved well-being through digital inclusion," Chiumia added.
GIT is also working with various stakeholders, including TNM and Airtel telecommunication companies, and the NBS financial institution, to improve the lives of rural and school dropout youth in order to spur development.
Coordinator for Lilongwe Urban Women’s Forum (LUWF) Agness Nazombe praised GIT for their timely interventions that will change the lives of youth, women, the elderly, and the marginalized in rural areas.
She also urged various governmental and non-governmental actors to join hands with GIT in order to improve the lives of vulnerable communities.
