"Govt to Fast-track Labour Export, Review Policies," says Minister
The expected beneficiaries of the Malawi-Israel labour export are 10,000 youths, with 700 having benefited so far, Nyalonje said.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Malawi's Minister of Labour Agness Nyalonje has assured citizens that the government will expedite systems for labour export to Israel and analyze all policies, which will be detailed in an upcoming statement from the Ministry of Labour, writes Judgement Katika.
Nyalonje made the remarks in response to a parliamentary delegation's report on labour export to Israel presented in parliament on Feb. 15, 2024.
She described the initiative as productive since parliament is performing its oversight role for Malawians' benefit.
"Malawians should be assured that young people will benefit from this intervention and they will not be disappointed with the initiative, as it is categorized into phases," Nyalonje explained.
According to the delegation committee chair Joyce Chitsulo, the government should accelerate agreement processes to implement and finalize the original idea of generating foreign currency and enabling youth to fully benefit.
"As a committee, we recommend assigning a representative at the Malawian Embassy in Israel to oversee everything," Chitsulo said.
Chitsulo added that the selection process is challenging since many breach their contracts by fleeing designated locations.
Numerous recommendations were made by MPs on the delegation report, including establishing a proper legal framework for labour export.
The expected beneficiaries of the Malawi-Israel labour export are 10,000 youths, with 700 having benefited so far, Nyalonje said.
We really need to act with speed so that we have legal backing to this good and beneficial program to our economy. Cudos ministry of Labour for engaging into an extra gear in as far as putting in place necessary statutes to guide this process is concern.
