Government Applauds NICO Group's $56 Million Hotel Project at Lilongwe Golf Club
NICO Group Managing Director Vizenge Kumwenda revealed that the hotel project, valued at $56 million, is scheduled for completion by December 2025.
LILONGWE, Malawi— The government has expressed appreciation for NICO Group's locally funded $56 million hotel project currently under construction at the Lilongwe Golf Club, writes Tawina Phiri.
During a recent site visit, Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule conveyed her satisfaction with the progress of development, emphasizing the importance of domestic investment in enhancing Malawi's tourism infrastructure.
"The strategic location of this hotel at the golf club will significantly strengthen our country's capacity to host international conferences and events," Minister Kamtukule stated.
She noted that the facility would add 180 hotel beds to the nation's hospitality capacity.
The minister highlighted that the new hotel will feature comprehensive amenities, including a gym, multiple restaurants, a conference center, and spa services, meeting international standards for business and leisure travelers.
Kamtukule further emphasized the project's potential contribution to addressing unemployment in the country.
"The tourism sector has tremendous potential to create numerous jobs for our citizens, and developments like this are crucial for that goal," she said.
NICO Group Managing Director Vizenge Kumwenda revealed that the hotel project, valued at $56 million, is scheduled for completion by December 2025.
"Despite challenges such as foreign currency scarcity that have affected various aspects of the construction process, we remain optimistic about meeting our completion timeline," Kumwenda said.
The locally funded development represents one of the largest domestic investments in Malawi's hospitality sector in recent years, demonstrating growing confidence in the country's tourism potential.
