Government Applauds DAPP for Socio-economic Development Initiatives in Malawi
The Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) receives government praise for its long-term social programs and job creation, benefiting vulnerable communities.
BLANTYRE, Malawi - The Malawian government has commended Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) for its invaluable contribution to the country's socio-economic development, writes Steven Godfrey Mkweteza.
Through long-term social programmes, DAPP has been complementing the government's efforts to sustain and expand economic opportunities for vulnerable and impoverished communities.
Noel Sherma, the Regional Trade Officer for the Southern Region in the Ministry of Trade, expressed gratitude during the opening of DAPP's fifth retail shop on the MI Road at the old Kandodo corner shop in Blantyre.
"We highly appreciate the assistance of organisations like DAPP in enhancing the socio-economic profile of our people in Malawi. They provide accessible commodities for low-income earners," stated Sherma.
He acknowledged DAPP's role in job creation and narrowing the unemployment gap in the country, as well as the implementation of programmes that elevate the socio-economic status of Malawi.
"Through their various shop outlets nationwide, DAPP has employed many individuals and made high-quality products available at fair prices, supporting sustainable livelihoods," Sherma added.
Moses Chibwana, the Country Director of DAPP, highlighted that the opening of the new shop has created employment opportunities for 15 youths.
The proceeds from the shop's sales will contribute to funding various projects implemented by DAPP, including agriculture, education, vocational training, and health and nutrition initiatives across the country.
"The shop will serve the surrounding communities and facilitate the implementation of our programmes nationwide. We are committed to providing high-quality, durable products at fair prices to cater to vulnerable individuals," Chibwana affirmed.
Chibwana also said that the organisation remains unfazed by the recent surge in competing businesses, as the increased competition will drive improved services and benefit the community.
Precious Malaya, a customer from Mbayani township, expressed joy at the opening of the new DAPP shop. He explained that the shop's presence would make their lives easier, allowing them to purchase goods at affordable prices and providing nearby communities with convenient access to essential commodities.
DAPP, a non-governmental organisation, has been operational in Malawi since 1995. Its primary focus is on humanism, social and economic development through long-term programmes that aim to uplift communities and create sustainable change.
The government's recognition of DAPP's contributions further highlights the organization's vital role in driving positive socio-economic outcomes in Malawi.
