Golden Matonga elected MISA Malawi Chairperson
MISA Malawi Chapter has announced that Golden Matonga of Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ) has been elected as the new MISA Malawi Chairperson, writes Winston Mwale.
Lilongwe, Malawi - The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has announced that Golden Matonga of Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ) has been elected as the new MISA Malawi Chairperson, writes Winston Mwale.
In the elections held on May 4, 2023, Matonga secured 251 out of 363 ballots cast in Lilongwe, Blantyre, and Mzuzu, defeating his opponent Wonder Msiska who received 112 votes.
Chisomo Ngulube won the position of Vice Chairperson, with 179 votes out of 363 cast, beating Blessings Kanache, Joseph Mwale, and Alick Ponje. Alick Ponje secured 92 votes, Joseph Mwale 48, and Blessings Kanache 43.
Nathan Majawa was elected as an executive member with 140 votes out of 363 cast, followed by Steven Zimba with 128 votes, Cathy Maulidi with 92 votes, and Luciano Milala with only 3 votes.
The newly elected Governing Council (NGC) will be officially unveiled at the MISA Malawi Awards Gala Dinner at Crossroads Hotel on May 6, 2023.
MISA Malawi thanked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for their professionalism and dedication in managing the elections, which greatly contributed to the credibility and successful conduct of the polls.
The chapter also expressed its gratitude to the monitors, candidates, and membership for the high level of professionalism and maturity shown to ensure the elections were a success.
The outgoing Chairperson of MISA Malawi, Teresa Temweka Ndanga, wished the new NGC all the best in their new roles.
