CAPE TOWN, South Africa— Cape Town joined over 120 countries recently in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit, part of a global initiative promoting peace through dialogue and cooperation, writes Winston Mwale.
The event, held at the Civic Centre's Council Chambers, brought together 200 participants from various sectors to address regional challenges.
Hon. Khumbo Hastings Khachali, former vice president of Malawi, emphasized the importance of diverse involvement.
"Collaborative efforts are more effective when diverse stakeholders are involved," Khachali said.
HWPL Chairman Man Hee Lee stressed the need for religious unity.
"We must work together to create a world of peace and leave it as a legacy for future generations," Lee said.
The summit featured breakout sessions for women, youth, religious leaders, government officials, and educators.
Moulana Nolan from Westridge Mosque highlighted the importance of HWPL's Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War, a framework for conflict prevention.
Educational leaders Keamogetswe Mokopakgosi and Dawood Goeiman emphasized education's role in peacebuilding.
