Giving Tuesday Malawi to Launch "Let's Talk Mental Health Through Music and Dance" Campaign
The campaign, titled "Let's Talk Mental Health Through Music and Dance," aims to address the growing challenges of mental health and substance abuse among Malawi's youth.
LILONGWE, MALAWI — Nkhadze Alive Youth Organisation (NAYORG), a youth-centred NGO founded in 2010, is set to launch an impactful campaign under the banner of Giving Tuesday Malawi on October 24, 2023, writes Winston Mwale.
The campaign, titled "Let's Talk Mental Health Through Music and Dance," aims to address the growing challenges of mental health and substance abuse among Malawi's youth.
A Proven Track Record of Social Impact
NAYORG boasts a commendable history of leveraging music and dance to tackle pressing social issues. From 2010 to 2016, the organization received support from UNICEF to implement the "Young People Against HIV and AIDS through Music and Dance" project.
This initiative trained 2,000 young individuals, comprising both in-school and out-of-school youths from five secondary schools in Balaka district, in choreography as a means of disseminating crucial HIV and AIDS messages.
Addressing the Urgent Need for Mental Health Awareness
In light of rising challenges such as high unemployment rates, economic hardships, and a surge in substance abuse cases among young Malawians, NAYORG is taking proactive steps to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of mental and physical well-being.
A Member of the Global Giving Tuesday Movement
NAYORG is a proud member of the Global Giving Tuesday movement, which promotes generosity and community giving to sustain important initiatives like "Let's Talk Mental Health." They hope to inspire other like-minded individuals, organizations, and youth to join the cause and spread the message of mental health awareness.
Using Music and Dance as Instruments of Change
NAYORG firmly believes in the transformative power of music and dance. Their approach not only soothes hearts but also imparts valuable skills to young individuals.
The official launch of the campaign is scheduled for October 24, 2023, and NAYORG is determined to engage youth across Malawi in mental health awareness through music and dance, offering hope for a brighter future amidst life's challenges.
