GIA launches second Ciyawo-English Learners Dictionary
Meanwhile, Mdala stated that they have donated 800 copies of the dictionary to the Mangochi District Education Manager's office for distribution to area schools.
Malawi: Global Interaction (GIA), a Christian organisation with its main base in Australia, launched its second Yao dictionary in Mangochi on November 26th, 2022.
In an interview with AfricaBrief, one of the GIA team leaders, Lloyd John Mdala, said that the second dictionary, Ciyawo-English Learners Dictionary, was created with none Yawo speakers in mind (target audience).
"The idea is that if they want to work, do business, interact with the Yawo people they should be able to do that using the Yawo language and this dictionary will bridge that gap that has been there for so long," said Mdala.
Mdala stated that the first dictionary, English Ciyawo Learners Dictionary, was released in 2018 to assist Yawo students in improving their understanding of the English language.
Meanwhile, Mdala stated that they have donated 800 copies of the dictionary to the Mangochi District Education Manager's office for distribution to area schools.
The dictionary is available on Google Play and in the African Books collectives.
