Ghanaian Aeronautical Engineer Turned YouTube Sensation Wode Maya Takes Malawi by Storm
He captured the beauty of the country on film, and he shared it with his millions of followers around the world.
LILONGWE, Malawi-If the warm heart of Africa skipped a beat when Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, better known as Wode Maya, stepped off the plane in Lilongwe on 15 August 2023, then it must have pounded furiously when he left on 24 August, writes Winston Mwale.
The Ghanaian YouTube personality, vlogger, digital media influencer, and aeronautical engineer had come to Malawi to explore the beauty of the country and share it with the world.
Wode Maya was no stranger to travel. He had already visited over 20 countries on his quest to document the diversity of the African continent.
But Malawi was different. This was the land of his “ancestors”, and he felt a deep connection to the place.
From the moment he arrived, Wode Maya was welcomed with open arms.
This is how Malawi’s Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule, welcomed him: “He is finally on home ground; the warm heart of Africa. Ndipo taipasa moto. What an inspiration this guy is. A person who believes in the potential of Africa is a true friend. We hope your stay in Malawi is great. Welcome home Wodemaya.”
He also met with local artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs, and he quickly fell in love with the Malawian people. He also enjoyed the country's rich culture and stunning natural beauty.
One of Wode Maya's favourite experiences in Malawi was visiting the Nyika National Park.
The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and leopards. Wode Maya went on a game drive and was amazed by the beauty of the park.
Wode Maya also enjoyed sampling the local cuisine. He tried nsima, a staple food made from cornmeal, and mphepo, a traditional dish made from vegetables. He also enjoyed kapado, a type of roasted pork that is a favourite among Malawians.
Wode Maya's visit to Malawi was a success.
He captured the beauty of the country on film, and he shared it with his millions of followers around the world.
He also made a positive impact on the Malawian people, and he inspired them to be proud of their country.
Wode Maya's visit to Malawi was a reminder of the power of travel to connect people and cultures.
It is also a reminder that Africa is a continent of beauty and diversity, and it is a place that should be explored.
