Fuel Shortage Reported in Mponela, Dowa
Motorists in Mponela queue for fuel as supply goes scarce.
Dowa, Malawi: Motorists in Mponela, Dowa district, have been queuing for fuel since Tuesday morning, as the supply of petrol has gone scarce, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
One motorist said that only petrol was available at one filling station in the town, Super Sink Filling Station.
Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu has attributed the disruptions in fuel supply to forex shortages and said that the government is considering engaging the suppliers to be paid in local currency.
Last month, the government also disclosed that it had signed annual contracts with Lake Oil and Camel Oil, which have balance volumes of 70,000 metric tonnes (MT) of fuel.
