Former Student Encourages Learning by Donating School Supplies
Gondwe, a successful business tycoon from Nsanje Boma in the Nsanje South West constituency, dismissed speculations that his generous act was driven by political aspirations.
NSANJE, Malawi— In a bid to inspire and motivate students to excel academically, Andrew Gondwe, a former student of Dinde Primary School, generously donated assorted school supplies worth thousands of Kwacha to the top-performing students in the Weekly Mathematics Assessment, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Gondwe expressed his concern about the declining performance of his former school, noting that it is not performing as well as it did during his time as a student.
He emphasised his desire for the school to maintain its historical excellence and for the current students, especially those in Standard 8, to work hard and secure placements in national secondary schools.
"I want learners, especially those in Standard 8, to pull up their socks so that they can make it to the National Schools," he emphasised.
As part of his donation, Gondwe provided school materials such as school bags, notebooks, rulers, and pens, among other items.
He also pledged that Standard 8 students who qualify for national secondary schools in the 2024 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (PSLCE) would each receive K50,000.00.
Gondwe, a successful business tycoon from Nsanje Boma in the Nsanje South West constituency, dismissed speculations that his generous act was driven by political aspirations.
He pointed out that others, like former PS Dr. Joseph Mwandidya, have been supporting community initiatives without seeking political gains, citing Dr. Mwandidya's sponsorship of a football trophy for over eight years to promote sports activities in the district.
The school's deputy headteacher, Misheck Valeta, expressed his appreciation for Gondwe's kind gesture and its potential to inspire students to work hard.
He encouraged others to follow Gondwe's example.
One of the current Standard 8 students, Tiyanjane Abraham, thanked the former student for his encouragement and expressed his determination to gain admission to national secondary schools or those within Nsanje.
