Former Solicitor General's Prosecution Case Concluded, Court to Rule
The anti-graft body has intensified its efforts to combat corruption in public offices, which has been a persistent challenge in Malawi.
LILONGWE, Malawi -- The state has concluded its prosecution case against Reyneck Matemba, the former Solicitor General and Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, who is facing two counts of failure to declare interest by a public officer, writes Winston Mwale.
On March 25, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) paraded its 15th and final witness in the case before the Lilongwe Financial and Economic Crimes Court.
The trial has been adjourned until July 16, when the court will rule on whether Matemba has a case to answer.
Matemba is being prosecuted under Section 25D(2)(a) of the Corrupt Practices Act, read with Section 34 of the same act.
The ACB's Principal Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, announced the development in a press statement issued on March 26.
