MZUZU, Malawi- Former players in the northern region have reason to celebrate following the launch of a northern chapter by JK Productions to assist legends, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
"This is a welcome development that will uplift many lives," said Shadreck Chikhosi, a former Bullets player.
Speaking Friday in Mzuzu when the organization visited the tombstone of former Nyasa Big Bullets and Civo United defender Kumbukani "Banya" Lungu, who died last July, JK Productions chairman Jim Kalua said careful deliberation led to forming the north-based legends chapter.
Kalua said over the years, legends have struggled to get by, with some making poor decisions and others dying penniless.
"We are compiling a database where former northern players will be registered. We aim to look after each other through capacity building initiatives and strategic programs," Kalua said.
Chikhosi commended JK Productions' leadership for the chapter, saying it would significantly impact legends' lives.
Among former northern players present were Russel Mwafulirwa, Gastin Simukonda, Lawrence Waya, Chrispine Fukizi and Spy Msiska.
