The event, scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Page House, will feature Gertrude Mutharika as the guest of honour and promises to be enlivened by gospel musician Phales Maliki Mang'anda of Daughters of Zion.
MANGOCHI, Malawi — Former First Lady Gertrude Mutharika is set to host a thanksgiving interreligious prayer event for women at her family's private home in Mangochi district on Saturday, February 8, 2025, writes Francis Polinyu Banda.
Treza Masauli, the chairperson of the organizing committee, shared that the prayers aim to bring together women from various faiths in the district to express gratitude for God's endless love, with a particular focus on the experiences of women.
“A lot of women are suffering in Africa because of the conflicts that are taking place in their countries, so Her Excellency Madam Gertrude Mutharika thought it wise to organise these special prayers,” Masauli explained.
The event, scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Page House, will feature Gertrude Mutharika as the guest of honour and promises to be enlivened by gospel musician Phales Maliki Mang'anda of Daughters of Zion.
Masauli emphasised the importance of the event's theme: “Solely Giving Thanks to the Lord Almighty for His Endless Mercies Toward Humankind, Including Women.”
She also noted that women are encouraged to wear attire that reflects their respective denominations to foster a sense of unity.
This gathering will not only serve as a space for spiritual reflection but also as an opportunity for women to express their gratitude for the New Year and to appreciate the blessings of peace and good rains, particularly in light of the suffering faced by women in conflict-ridden regions of Africa.
