Civil Service United Football Club legend, Kumbukani Lungu, laid to rest; JK Productions praised for support of football legends.
MZIMBA, MALAWI — Football legends paid their respects as Kumbukani 'Banya' Lungu, a former player for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Civil Service United Football Club, was laid to rest in his hometown, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Civil team manager Gabriel Chirwa expressed gratitude to JK Productions for their continued support of living legends in the country.
"Lungu contributed tremendously to the development of football in the country. I am devastated by his passing. We will miss him dearly. It's always sad when a member of the Legends passes away. I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family and friends," said Chirwa.
Willy Chabwinja, a Civil and Flames legend, praised JK Productions Chairman Jimmy Kalua for his unwavering support in uplifting the welfare of legends.
He expressed disappointment that FCB Nyasa Big Bullets did not take action on Lungu's death.
"I believe FCB Nyasa Big Bullets as a team could have done something about his death, but unfortunately, they decided to put a blind eye," said Chabwinja.
"Our memories of Banya will forever live in our hearts, and his invaluable contribution will be reflected in the history books. May his soul rest in peace."
Many in attendance, including football legends, highlighted Lungu's hard work, passion for the sport, and encouragement for others to venture into football.
Lungu, known for his hard-tackling defence, went missing on July 10, 2023, and was later found dead. Authorities suspect foul play in his death.
JK Productions, through their support of living football legends, continues to make a commendable contribution to uplifting the welfare of former players, ensuring their contributions are recognised and appreciated during their lifetime.
