Flames' Coach Set to Receive Housing Plot for COSAFA Success
Mabedi to receive housing plot from Innobuild for Flames' COSAFA Cup success.
LILONGWE, Malawi — Patrick Mabedi, coach of Malawi's national soccer team, is set to receive a housing plot from real estate firm Innobuild Limited following the Flames' early success at the 2022 COSAFA Cup, writes Fletcher Chiponda.
An Innobuild statement said Mabedi can select a plot in Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Blantyre or Zomba, adding the company is "delighted with Flames' performance."
Under Mabedi, the Flames have won all three Group B matches while not conceding a goal, beating Seychelles 1-0, Zambia 2-0 and the Comoros 2-0. The team tops the group.
Mabedi, nicknamed "The General", currently coaches on an interim basis following Mario Marinica's departure. The wins have increased calls for Mabedi to get the full-time job.
Before joining the Flames, Mabidi coached in Malawi and South Africa.
The plot offer is "a fitting reward" for Mabedi's tactical know-how and motivational skills that have lifted Malawi's game at the regional tournament so far, said Innobuild spokeswoman Alice Manda.
Innobuild hopes the gesture inspires Mabedi to help the Flames make a deep run at COSAFA and continue improving Malawian football.
