Flames Boss Unveils Year-Long World Cup Prep Plan
"We need to hit the ground running," Mabedi said.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Flames head coach Patrick Mabedi has revealed that he submitted a one-year long-term technical plan to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) as preparation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, writes Benjamin Nyirenda.
Mabedi made the remarks when reacting to the recent strong performances of the Flames' opponents at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
He said most of his side's opponents in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers are active at the ongoing AFCON campaign, unlike his charges who have been off-season since December.
This is because 90% of his squad are locally based players, hence the reason for submitting the one-year technical plan to FAM.
Mabedi continued by saying he had to submit the plan to FAM to ensure his team is competing and active ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
The one-year plan, according to Mabedi, includes proposed international friendlies and a possible training camp in March this year.
The Flames are in Group H of the World Cup qualifiers together with Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, Liberia and Sao Tome and Principe.
"We need to hit the ground running," Mabedi said about his technical plan.
"This will help us be sharp and ready to compete at the highest level when the World Cup qualifiers begin."
