First Capital Bank Commits K100 Million as Anchor Sponsor for Presidential Charity Golf Tournament
Expressing his gratitude for FCB's support, President Chakwera emphasised the bank's strong commitment to corporate social responsibility in the country.
Lilongwe, Malawi - President Lazarus Chakwera announced today at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe that First Capital Bank (FCB) will serve as the Diamond or Anchor Sponsor of the 2023 edition of the Presidential Charity Initiative Fundraising Golf Tournament with a substantial commitment of K100 million, writes Esther Banda.
Expressing his gratitude for FCB's support, President Chakwera emphasised the bank's strong commitment to corporate social responsibility in the country.
He stated, "This partnership is an encouraging shot in the arm for our cause to become a self-reliant country where we can help our own fellow citizens without relying on outsiders."
He further acknowledged the challenges faced in 2023 but praised the nation's resilience, saying, "2023 has been a difficult year that has tested our mettle, but we have risen to the occasion and shown our resilience as a nation and as a people, in large part because of partnerships like this."
President Chakwera outlined the allocation of funds, stating, "Firstly, we will provide much-needed relief and support to the victims of Cyclone Freddy, helping them rebuild their lives and communities. Secondly, a significant portion of the funds will be dedicated to supporting needy students from our universities because education is the cornerstone of progress."
He reassured FCB and all sponsors across the country that the funds would be used exclusively for their specified purposes.
FCB's Chief Executive Officer, Agness Jazza, echoed the bank's commitment to supporting various sectors, stating, "Our mission extends beyond education. Nature's wrath can devastate the community, as we saw with the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Freddy. That is why we have decided to join this cause as the main sponsor of this year's Presidential Charity Initiative."
In 2022, the Presidential Charity Initiative raised a sum of K281 million, and this year's tournament is scheduled to take place on October 7, 2023, at the Golf Club in Lilongwe.
