PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA — Fide Master Joseph Mwale from Malawi has embarked on a series of chess tournaments and coaching training in South Africa, writes Happy Valirani.
Mwale, who left his home country at the end of July, recently finished 3rd in the Bojanala chess tournament held in Sparkling in Water Runstuburg.
"I am here in South Africa participating in a number of chess tournaments and coaching training, as well as simultaneous chess games with kids. My first tournament was the Bojanala chess tournament, where I finished 3rd out of 180 players," said Mwale.
Mwale is eagerly anticipating his next tournament, scheduled for August 5th in Mpumalanga, followed by two more tournaments on August 9th and 12th in Pretoria.
His final tournament, the Chess Powerhouse Tournament, will take place from August 19th to 20th, also in Pretoria.
Prior to the final tournament, Mwale plans to conduct chess workshops and clinics with kids.
"I'm looking forward to the next tournament on Saturday, August 5th, in Mpumalanga, followed by the Pretoria Tswane tournament on August 9th, which coincides with Ladies Day. I will also participate in the Jacaranda chess tournament on August 12th. On August 13th, we will have a coaching clinic workshop for kids, which I will facilitate myself. This will be followed by simultaneous chess games with the kids," explained Mwale.
Mwale expressed his gratitude to Lincoln September, the president of Bojanala Chess, for inviting him to take part in this series of tournaments.
He also highlighted that the Mwale Chess Academy continues to provide chess lessons in both Malawi and South Africa.
Participating in these tournaments and coaching sessions is a significant opportunity for Mwale to enhance his playing level and further develop his skills.
