Fashion Icon Empowers Girls with '100-Year Plan' Initiative
The "100-Year Plan" aims to empower the next generation of Malawian girls through inspiration and skills training.
LILONGWE, Malawi — Renowned international fashion designer Lily Alfonso, known as Madam Lily, has launched an initiative dubbed the "100-Year Plan" aimed at inspiring, educating, supporting and motivating young, passionate individuals across the country, writes Catherine Tembo.
During an event organized by Glow Motivation in partnership with MHUB on Saturday, Alfonso said she wants to create a space where talented young girls can be trained and acquire knowledge to achieve self-reliance.
"I have a passion for inspiring the young generation and preparing them to adapt to every change that may come their way," Alfonso said.
"So I wanted to inspire them that they can do whatever they want to do in their lives and achieve their goals, and this is part of my 100-Year Plan project."
Glow Motivation CEO and founder Memory Ngwira said the motivation talks are crucial for inspiring girls to courageously pursue their dreams for a better future.
"We are planning to have similar sessions in the near future to impact more young girls in the country," Ngwira said.
"These sessions are very crucial because they will help the girls fully discover their purpose."
In addition to the talks, the organization has donated school uniforms to underprivileged children in various schools.
Participant Alinafe Thom, a farmer, said she benefited greatly from the sessions, which taught self-confidence and courage.
"Going forward, I am going to use what I have learned here in my journey as a farmer to be able to achieve my goals," Thom said.
