Family Suffers Severe Burns After House Fire Caused by Stored Petrol
A family of three is hospitalized after their house caught fire from stored petrol, prompting a warning from the police.
MPONELA, MALAWI — A family of three is receiving treatment at Dowa district hospital after their house in Mpapa village caught fire due to stored petrol, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
Mazuzo Chimutu, his wife Chinsinsi Mathias, and their three-year-old son Collings sustained severe burns in the incident, which occurred on the 15th of this month at around 20:00 hours.
According to reports, the fire broke out while Chinsinsi was using a charcoal burner for household activities.
The presence of fuel in the house led to the rapid spread of the fire, resulting in severe burns for the family.
Well-wishers transported the victims to Mponela Rural Hospital, where they were later referred to Dowa District Hospital for further treatment.
In response to the incident, Mponela Police Station is urging residents to refrain from storing fuel in their homes without a licence.
Keeping fuel without proper authorization is considered an offence, and individuals found in violation will face arrest.
The family resides in Mpapa village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Traditional Authority Mponela in the Dowa district.
