FAM to Regulate Football Academies, Urges Registration for Recognition
The initiative marks a significant step in FAM's efforts to standardize and enhance football development at the grassroots level in Malawi.
LILONGWE, Malawi— The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is set to regulate local football academies and has called for their registration with the organization to gain official recognition, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
FAM Technical Officer MacWilliams Nkunika announced the initiative Friday during a meeting with football academies based in the central region of Malawi.
"We want to play our role and ensure that academies are registered with the association and in conformity with our set standards," Nkunika said.
"We had this interface to share some notes on how academies can be registered and get the license from FAM."
Nkunika emphasized that the move aligns with FAM's transformation agenda, aiming to improve the quality of player development in the country.
"We want to know and find out how academies are operating in our country and how best we can assist them so that they can keep on producing good players," he added.
Dave Mpima, Technical Director of Play Football Malawi, welcomed FAM's registration process, calling it timely.
