FAM President Sets Deadline for Club Licensing Committee’s Decision on Mzuzu Stadium
This comes after a ban was imposed in August this year due to the stadium’s failure to meet requirements.
MZUZU, Malawi — Walter Nyamilandu, President of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), has given the Club Licensing Committee 48 hours to make a determination on Mzuzu Stadium, writes Victor Musongole.
This comes after a ban was imposed in August this year due to the stadium’s failure to meet requirements.
The directive follows an inspection conducted by the Club Licensing Committee on Tuesday, which found that several renovations have been carried out at the stadium.
These include pitch leveling, replacement of the perimeter fence, maintenance of dressing rooms and toilets, and redemarcation of stands.
“I’m impressed with the renovations that have been done here. The pitch is now playable, the perimeter fence has been replaced, and they are finishing the dressing rooms. It’s fit to host games if it passes the Club Licensing Committee,” said Nyamilandu in an interview after touring the stadium.
Yotamu Mtafya, Director of Parks and Leisure at Mzuzu City Council, expressed the council’s commitment to getting the stadium back on track to host games following some short-term renovations.
“We have done several renovations like pitch, perimeter fence, maintenance of dressing rooms and toilets. We are hopeful it will pass the test this time,” Mtafya said.
Moyale Barracks and Ekwendeni Hammers teams use the stadium as their home ground.
The Mzuzu City Council puts the capacity for Mzuzu Stadium at 14,200 spectators.
