FAM Pitch Inspections Underway Ahead of New Season
The inspections ensure that venues meet the required standards, promoting player safety and providing an ideal environment for competitive football matches.
CHITIPA, Malawi— The Football Association of Malawi has commenced inspections of pitches across the country in preparation for the new season scheduled to begin next month, writes Victor Musongole.
On Monday, FAM's technical team inspected Chitipa Base Ground in Chitipa, which could host matches for Chitipa United if it meets licensing requirements.
The team also assessed Karonga Stadium, the proposed home venue for Karonga United and newly promoted Baka City.
After inspecting Chitipa Base Ground, FAM Technical Officer Robert Mzinza expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far but noted some areas requiring further work.
"We are impressed with progress here and looking at the work force on the ground we have hope they will finish the work plan in the next two weeks," Mzinza said.
"But they have to work on spectators stands. The dressing rooms progress is good, but they need to level the pitch."
Mike Yobe, vice chairperson of Chitipa United, assured that the club would collaborate with the council to address the highlighted issues within three weeks.
"We are happy that the inspection went on well. They have highlighted areas which we have to work on like pitch leveling and spectators stands," Yobe said.
"The council's stadium taskforce was here. I have hope together we will finish the work in less than three weeks."
FAM officials are scheduled to inspect Mzuzu Stadium on Thursday as part of their preparations for the upcoming season's kickoff next month.
The inspections ensure that venues meet the required standards, promoting player safety and providing an ideal environment for competitive football matches.
